Caption styles and brand kits
Pick a caption style, change its colors, choose emphasized words, and keep a consistent look with brand kits and templates.
Updated
Every clip has burned-in captions timed to each word. This article covers the caption styles, colors, emphasized words and how brand kits and templates keep your clips consistent.
Pick a caption style
Open a clip, then the Style tab. Under Caption style, click a style. The preview changes right away, and each change is one undo step.
There are 10 styles:
- Bold Pop
- Karaoke
- Clean
- Highlight Box
- Lower Third
- Keyword
- Typewriter
- Shadow Pop
- Podcast
- Punch
New clips start in Bold Pop unless your workspace has a default template or you apply a brand kit.
Change the colors
Under Colours in the Style tab, there are four colors you can set:
| Color | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Text | The words |
| Highlight | The spoken word, its box or the keywords, depending on the style |
| Outline | The outline, in styles that have one |
| Box | The caption box, in styles that have one |
Click a circle to pick a color. Press Reset under it to go back to the style's own color.
You can also ask in the Chat tab, like "yellow captions" or "make the highlight blue". See Edit a clip with chat.
Emphasized words
Reeltopus picks a few key words in each clip to stand out. Two styles show them: Keyword and Punch. They draw emphasized words larger or in the highlight color. Other styles ignore emphasis.
To choose your own:
- In the Edit tab, select the words.
- Press Emphasis, or E.
Press it again on the same words to take the emphasis off. Once you choose words yourself, only your chosen words are emphasized. To go back to automatic picks, ask in chat, for example "pick the keywords automatically again".
Brand kits
A brand kit keeps your look in one place. Set one up at Brand settings. A kit holds:
- A name
- A default caption style
- A font: pick one of the bundled fonts, or upload your own TTF or OTF file up to 4 MB
- Caption colors: text, highlight, outline and background
- A logo or watermark, in the corner you choose (PNG with transparency works best, up to 2 MB)
- Intro and outro cards
If your font is missing letters for another script, those letters fall back to Noto Sans. Only upload fonts you have the right to use.
To apply a kit, open the Style tab and go to Brand and template. Pick a kit under Brand kit to apply it to this clip, or press All clips to apply it to every clip in the video.
Templates
A template saves a clip's whole look so you can reuse it. In Brand and template, press Save this clip's look as a template and give it a name. A template keeps:
- Caption style and colors
- Brand kit
- Layout and aspect
- Resolution
- Silence removal
To use one, pick it under Template and press This clip or All clips. On Brand settings you can make one template the default. The default template is applied to every new video's clips once they're found.
How many kits and templates you can keep
| Plan | Brand kits | Templates |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 1 | 3 |
| Creator | 3 | 10 |
| Pro | 10 | 50 |
| Agency | 50 | 200 |
Caption files
Need captions as a separate file? In the Export & post tab, next to Caption file, download SRT, VTT or ASS. See Caption languages and translation for languages.
