Updated
This guide takes you from signing in to a posted clip. It covers the sample project, your first upload, reviewing and editing clips, exporting an MP4 and posting it.
Go to the sign-in page, enter your email and press Email me a sign-in link. The link expires in 15 minutes. If you see Continue with Google, you can use that instead. If your company uses single sign-on, enter your work email and Reeltopus sends you to your company's sign-in page.
The first time you sign in, you get a new workspace on the Free plan, which includes 2 upload hours a month. Your balance is in the header, next to your plan name.
Start with the sample project
Your workspace comes with a sample project: President Kennedy's 1962 "We choose to go to the Moon" speech at Rice University. Its clips are already made, and it uses none of your hours. Open it from Your videos at /app to look around the editor before you upload anything. See The sample project for more.
Upload your own video
On /app, drop a file on Drop a long video here or press Choose a file. Podcasts, streams, webinars and talks all work. The app lists MP4, MOV, WebM, MP3 and M4A.
Before you upload, you can:
- Tick Back-catalog video (counts at half rate) for older videos.
- Pick the Spoken language, or leave it on Detect automatically.
If YouTube import is switched on for your account, you'll also see Or paste a YouTube link below the upload box. See Upload a video and Import from YouTube.
Wait for processing
When the upload finishes, the project page opens and shows a progress bar. The page updates by itself, so you can leave it open. You can also close it and come back later. How processing works explains each step.
Review your clips
When the video is ready, the clip editor opens. The clip list on the left is sorted best first. Each clip has a score out of 100. Press Why? next to the score to see how it rated on hook, flow, payoff and how shareable it is. See Review your clips.
Edit a clip
Pick a clip, then use the tabs on the right:
- Edit: trim the clip, cut words, and turn on Remove silences and filler words.
- Style: caption style, colors, hook, title, shape and brand kit.
- Chat: type a change in plain words, like "Make it 30 seconds".
Every change saves by itself, and Undo and Redo cover every edit. See Edit a clip and Edit a clip with chat.
Export
Open the Export & post tab and press Export MP4. A progress bar shows while it renders. When it's done, press Download MP4. You can also download the captions as an SRT, VTT or ASS file. To export several clips at once, tick them in the clip list and press the Export button that appears below the list.
Post
Once a clip's MP4 is ready, the Export & post tab shows posting options. If you haven't connected a social account yet, press Connect an account. That takes you to Connections, where workspace owners and admins connect accounts. Then come back to the clip, pick the account, choose Now or Schedule, and press Post now or Schedule post.
