Webinar to clips, one idea per clip
A webinar gets recorded once and then mostly sits behind a replay form. Inside it are parts that work on their own: a clear explanation, a customer question answered well, an objection handled. Reeltopus finds those moments in the transcript, reframes the speaker to vertical and captions them, so you don't have to scrub through an hour of recording to fill next week's LinkedIn calendar.
What makes webinars hard to clip
The speaker is a small box next to the slides
Many webinar recordings show slides full-frame with the presenter in a thumbnail. A 9:16 crop around that thumbnail enlarges a small image, and exports can't exceed the source resolution, so it looks soft. If your webinar tool can record a speaker view or each presenter's camera on its own, upload that version for clips.
Slides carry half the meaning
“As you can see on this chart” doesn't work in a vertical clip that crops the chart out. The clip brain picks moments where the spoken words have a hook and a payoff. Skip any pick that depends on a slide, or open it in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro and put the slide back in.
Housekeeping at the start, a pitch at the end
The first minutes are usually sound checks, the agenda and “we'll share the recording”. The clip brain looks for complete moments with a payoff, which housekeeping rarely has. Trimming the waiting-room minutes before you upload also saves upload hours.
Panels where people talk over each other
On a panel, the person speaking changes every few sentences. Active-speaker tracking follows whoever is talking on a smooth camera path. For a two-person fireside chat, the split-screen layout keeps the host and guest both in view.
Moments worth clipping
The answer to a live question
Q&A is often the most specific part of a webinar, and the attendee's question is a ready-made hook. Read the question aloud before answering so the clip makes sense without the chat.
The framework in one breath
The moment the presenter sums up the method in three steps. It's the part people screenshot, and it works as a clip without the slides.
An objection, handled
“Isn't this only for big teams?” followed by a straight answer. Clips like this are useful to sales as well as marketing.
A definition your buyers search for
A 45-second explanation of a term in your field, said plainly. It keeps being useful long after the webinar date has passed.
A guest expert's strongest opinion
Guest speakers bring their own audience. A clip of their sharpest take gives them something to repost.
How it works
- 1
Upload the recording
Download the recording from your webinar platform, ideally in a speaker view, and upload it. Cut the waiting-room minutes first if they run long.
- 2
Keep one idea per clip
Each pick comes with a one-line reason. Keep clips that make one point, and drop those that rely on a slide the viewer won't see.
- 3
Clean up names and terms
Fix product names and acronyms flagged as uncertain once, and every clip updates. If an attendee's name is read out in Q&A, delete it in the transcript to cut it from the clip. Remove filler words and pauses per clip.
- 4
Export for each channel
Export MP4 for LinkedIn, Shorts and Reels, SRT or VTT for video players that take caption files, or a Premiere Pro, Resolve or Final Cut timeline for a designer to add slides and an end card. Brand kits are planned.
Recommended setup
| Setting | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Clip length | 30 to 90 seconds, one idea each | Enough to state a point and back it up. If a clip needs two ideas to make sense, it's usually two clips. |
| Layout | Speaker tracking on the presenter; split-screen for a two-person fireside chat | A face holds attention better than a cropped slide. Split-screen keeps both people in a conversation-style session. |
| Captions | A clean, quieter style at a medium-large size, emphasis on key terms | Product names and numbers are what viewers need to read. A calmer style fits a company feed better than a loud one. |
| Where to post | LinkedIn first, then YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and X | Webinar audiences are mostly professional, so the people you want are on LinkedIn. The same vertical file works on the others. |
| Export | 1080p MP4 plus an SRT file; a timeline when design adds slides or branding | The MP4 is ready to post. The timeline lets a designer finish the clip without redoing the cut. |

Questions
Can I clip a webinar that's mostly slides?
Clip picks come from the transcript, so they work on any recording with clear speech. Framing follows faces, so clips look best when the presenter's camera is in the recording. For slide-only recordings, use the timeline export to lay out the slide yourself in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro.
Won't clips give away the webinar?
A clip that teaches one thing well is a better advert for the replay than a vague teaser. Let clips answer one question each and keep the full walkthrough for the replay, linked in the post.
What about attendee privacy?
If attendees speak in Q&A or their names are read out, check your registration terms and get consent before posting. You can delete a name in the transcript to cut it from a clip.
How many upload hours does a webinar use?
One hour of recording uses one upload hour, and every clip, export and re-run from it is included. Trimming the pre-show first uses less. If a job fails, the hours come back automatically.
Can our marketing team share an account?
