How are the caption timings worked out?+
From your text alone. Each word gets a duration based on its length and your speaking pace, with short pauses after commas and sentences and longer ones at blank lines. The timings are a close estimate, so nudge them in your editor if you pause a lot. Reeltopus times every word from the actual audio.
What is the difference between SRT and VTT?+
Both are plain-text subtitle formats with a start time, an end time and the text for each caption. SRT is the most widely supported, by video editors and by YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn. VTT (WebVTT) is the web standard used by HTML5 video players. Most editors accept either.
How many words should a short-form caption have?+
Fewer than you think. On a phone, one to three words at a time is easiest to read and keeps attention on the speaker. For calmer, educational videos, up to two short lines (about 6 to 9 words) works. That is what the three styles here produce.
Does it work for languages other than English?+
The line splitting and SRT or VTT files work for any language written with spaces between words. The preview font covers Latin script only. Reeltopus captions 100+ languages from the audio, including Hindi, Arabic, Japanese and mixed-language speech.
Is my script uploaded anywhere?+
No. Everything runs in your browser, including the caption engine. Your text never leaves your device.
