A Twitch clip maker for streamers who talk
Reeltopus is built for streams where you talk: commentary, reactions, just chatting, co-op banter, coaching and game reviews. It finds clips by reading what is said, so it catches the rant, the call-out and the story. It won't spot a clutch play in a silent stretch of gameplay, and you should know that before you upload a six-hour VOD.
What makes gaming streams hard to clip
Speech-based picks miss silent plays
The clip brain reads the transcript. A perfect round with no commentary looks like nothing to it. If you react out loud, the reaction is in the transcript and the moment gets found. For quiet highlights, drop a stream marker on Twitch while you're live and cut those yourself.
Streams are long and hours add up
Every uploaded hour counts against your plan. Cut the “starting soon” screen, BRB breaks and queue times before uploading, or upload only the segment you want clipped. A local recording from OBS is usually sharper than the VOD, too.
Facecam and gameplay in one vertical frame
Reeltopus frames on faces, which suits just-chatting and camera-led segments. It doesn't build a stacked facecam-over-gameplay layout for you. When the gameplay is the point, export the clip as a Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro timeline and stack the two in your editor.
Twitch VODs expire
Per Twitch's help center, past broadcasts are kept for 7 days on most accounts, 14 days for Affiliates and 60 days for Partners, Prime and Turbo users, and only if “Store past broadcasts” was on before you went live. Download the VOD from Video Producer soon after the stream.
Moments worth clipping
The rant
A sustained, opinionated take on a patch, a game or a decision. Speech-heavy, and it's exactly what the clip brain looks for.
Reading chat and answering
When you read a message aloud and respond, the question becomes the hook and your answer is the payoff.
The call before the play
“Watch this, I'm going to…” and what happens next. The setup and the result are both in your words.
The fail and your reaction
The play itself may be silent, but your reaction isn't. Check the clip starts early enough to show what went wrong.
Coaching and explanations
“Here's why you lost that fight.” Advice clips are useful to people who have never watched your stream.
Duo and co-op banter
Two voices bouncing off each other. If you're both on camera, split-screen keeps both faces in the clip.
How it works
- 1
Get the recording
Download your past broadcast from Twitch's Video Producer or your stream from YouTube Studio, or use your local OBS recording. Trim dead air before uploading.
- 2
Let it read the stream
Reeltopus transcribes in 100+ languages, including mixed-language streams. Game titles, character names and slang get flagged when it's unsure. Fix one once and every clip updates.
- 3
Review the picks
Each clip has a one-line reason. Drop the ones that need context from an hour earlier, and ask in plain words for changes: “start two seconds earlier so the setup is in”.
- 4
Export or stack
Download MP4 to post as is, or open the clip in your editor to stack facecam over gameplay. You can also export SRT, VTT or ASS caption files if you'd rather style captions yourself.
Recommended setup
| Setting | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Clip length | 20 to 60 seconds for reactions; longer for rants and explanations | Reactions land fast. A rant or a coaching breakdown needs room, and YouTube's help pages allow Shorts up to three minutes. |
| Layout | Speaker tracking on your facecam for talk-led clips; stacked layout in your editor when gameplay matters | Framing follows faces automatically. A facecam-over-gameplay stack is a manual step today, done from the timeline export. |
| Captions | A high-contrast bold style at a large size, emphasis highlights on | Game footage is busy, so captions have to stand out against HUDs and effects. Keep them clear of the app buttons at the bottom of the screen. |
| Where to post | YouTube Shorts and TikTok first, then X and Instagram Reels | Shorts sits next to your VODs and uploads on YouTube. TikTok and Reels reach people who don't watch streams. |
| Source file | A local recording, at the resolution you streamed or higher | Exports are capped at the source resolution, and a local recording usually has more detail than the compressed VOD. |

Questions
Will Reeltopus find clips in gameplay without commentary?
No. Clip picks come from what's said, so a silent stretch of gameplay gives it nothing to work with. Reeltopus suits commentary, reaction, just-chatting and coaching streams. If your highlights are mostly silent plays, mark them during the stream and cut them yourself.
Does it read Twitch chat?
No. It works from the audio. If chat goes wild and you read it out or react to it, that's in the transcript and can be picked up. A chat overlay in the corner of your layout is usually cropped out of a vertical clip anyway.
How many upload hours does a stream use?
A four-hour stream uses four upload hours, so trimming breaks and queues matters. At the planned launch pricing, Free includes 2 hours a month with a small watermark, Creator 10 hours and Pro 25 hours. Clipping an archive of old streams at half rate is planned.
What about music in my stream?
If you play music on stream, clips carry it to platforms that check audio automatically, which can get a clip claimed or muted. Pick moments where music isn't playing, or keep music off while you're talking to chat.
Can it make a facecam-over-gameplay layout?
Not automatically today. Reeltopus frames on faces and does split-screen for two people. For a stacked layout, open the clip in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro from the timeline export, and the cut and captions are already there.
