Price comparison

AI clip maker pricing, per hour of video

Short answer: the lowest list price per hour of source video we found is Reeltopus, at $0.99–1.20 an hour on yearly plans and $1.90 on Creator monthly. OpusClip costs $5.80–6.00 an hour, Vizard $2.90–3.90 and Klap about $1.89–2.90. Descript Creator works out at $1.17 per media hour, but Descript also spends AI credits on clipping at a rate it doesn't publish. Clips, exports and re-runs are free on Reeltopus, so its hourly figure is the whole cost.

  • Descript: A full editor, priced per person. Its page doesn't label which price is monthly (we use the higher) or say how many AI credits Create clips uses.
  • Klap: Klap bills per clip ($0.29 on Basic), not per hour. Assumes 10 clips from each hour of video; fewer clips cost less.
  • Submagic: Long-video clipping (Magic Clips) is a $19 a month add-on for 10 uploads. Its pages don't say how long an upload can be, so there's no per-hour figure.

When another tool is the better buy

  • You only clip a few short videos a month. Vizard's free plan (60 credits a month, 720p) and Klap's per-clip pricing can cost less when you take two or three clips from a 20-minute video.
  • You want a full editor first. Descript's price covers a complete podcast and video editor; clipping is one feature of many.
  • You mostly make 30-second captioned videos. Submagic is built around short captioned videos rather than clipping long ones.

How we worked it out

Each plan's monthly price is divided by the hours of source video it covers each month. Credit-based plans are converted at the tool's own rate (1 credit = 1 minute on OpusClip and Vizard). Klap bills per clip, so its figure assumes 10 clips per hour of video and is marked "about". Submagic doesn't publish how long an upload can be, so it has no hourly figure.

Questions

What is the cheapest AI clip maker for long videos?

Per hour of source video at list prices, the lowest we found is Reeltopus: $0.99 an hour on Agency yearly, $1.20 on Creator yearly and $1.90 on Creator monthly. OpusClip is $5.80–6.00 an hour and Vizard $2.90–3.90. Descript Creator is $1.17 per media hour, but it also spends AI credits on clipping at an unpublished rate. Clips, exports and re-runs are free on Reeltopus, so its hourly figure is the whole cost.

How much does OpusClip cost per hour of video?

OpusClip charges 1 credit per minute of video imported. Starter is $15 a month for 150 credits (2.5 hours, $6.00 an hour) and Pro is $29 a month per 300-credit pack (5 hours, $5.80 an hour), at US monthly prices. OpusClip shows lower prices in some regions and on yearly billing.

Why compare AI clip makers by cost per hour?

Because they sell different units: credits per minute (OpusClip, Vizard), clips per month (Klap), media hours per person (Descript), short videos per month (Submagic) or upload hours (Reeltopus). Converting each to the cost of one hour of source video is the only way to compare them like for like for podcasts, streams and webinars.

Do re-runs, more clips or exporting again cost extra?

On Reeltopus, no: an hour is counted once, when you upload, and failed jobs give their hours back automatically. On credit-based tools, re-processing a video usually spends credits again; check each tool's credit rules, linked in the table.
