Use Reeltopus in Cursor
Reeltopus is an MCP server at https://reeltopus.com/api/mcp. Cursor connects to it by signing in to your Reeltopus account, then calls its tools when you ask: find your videos, read the ranked clips with their transcripts, change captions and trims, export MP4s and caption files, and schedule posts to the accounts you connected. See MCP and AI agents for every tool. Not technical? Here is the same setup in plain words.
Connect Cursor
Add Reeltopus to Cursor in one click, then click Connect next to reeltopus in Cursor Settings → MCP and sign in. Or put this in ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in a project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"reeltopus": {
"url": "https://reeltopus.com/api/mcp"
}
}
}To use an API key instead of signing in, create one under Settings → API and add "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer rt_live_…" } next to the url. The same file works for the Cursor CLI (cursor-agent).
Cursor gives its agent about 40 MCP tools at most, across every server you have on. Reeltopus has more, so in Cursor Settings → MCP click the ones you don't need to switch them off: the B-roll, sponsor, Packaging Lab and whole-video tools are the usual ones to leave out.
Start a new video
Cursor's agent can upload a video file from your project or computer itself: it starts the upload, sends the file in parts with curl and finishes it. Or ask for an upload link.
Things to ask
- Upload ./media/launch-talk.mp4 to Reeltopus and show me the best clips
- Export the top three clips and save the MP4 links to clips.md
- Schedule the best clip to LinkedIn on Friday at 10am
- Write the captions of every clip of my latest video to SRT files
One-line workflows
The server offers these as prompts, which Cursor lists with the server's tools:
clip_and_schedule: Finds your newest video (or uploads one), picks its best clip, exports it with captions and schedules it to a connected account after you confirm.best_clips: Lists the clips Reeltopus found in your newest (or a named) video, best first, as playable cards where the app supports them.clip_new_video: Uploads a new video (from a file path, or through a private upload link), waits for its clips and shows the best ones.post_as_series: Cuts your newest (or a named) video into consecutive parts and schedules them, one or more a day, to a connected account after you confirm.
Questions
How do I use Reeltopus with Cursor?
Click "Add to Cursor" on this page, or add { "mcpServers": { "reeltopus": { "url": "https://reeltopus.com/api/mcp" } } } to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, then connect it in Cursor Settings → MCP and sign in to Reeltopus.
Can I use an API key in Cursor?
Yes. Create a key under Settings → API in Reeltopus and add an Authorization: Bearer header to the server in mcp.json. A key acts for the owner or admin who made it.
Do I need a Reeltopus account?
Yes. The free plan works. You sign in to Reeltopus when you connect, pick the workspace and choose what the assistant may do. Processing a video spends its length from your hours, exactly as an upload in the app does; exports and posts don't use hours.
Will the assistant post without asking?
No. Every tool that publishes or overwrites is marked that way, so the assistant asks you first. A connection can also be left without the permission to post, and you can disconnect it any time under Settings → API.
Does Reeltopus generate new video?
No. Reeltopus edits videos you provide: it finds the best moments, reframes them to 9:16, burns in captions of what is said and exports or posts them. It doesn't generate new footage, voices or images through the assistant.
