German captions for your short clips
German-speaking audiences in Germany, Austria and Switzerland watch a lot of podcasts, interviews and explainers, which makes them a natural fit for long-to-short clipping. The challenge is the words themselves: German compounds can fill half the screen on their own.
What German captions look like
Example caption lines in Latin script, as they would sit on a clip.
Warte, jetzt kommt das Beste.
Dieser eine Fehler hat mich ein Jahr gekostet.
Speichere dir das für später.
What good German captions get right
- ✓Long compound nouns get a line to themselves rather than being squeezed next to other words.
- ✓Nouns are always capitalised, so automatic sentence-casing must never lowercase them.
- ✓ä, ö, ü and ß are kept as they are, never swapped for ae, oe, ue or ss.
How it works in Reeltopus
- 1. Drop in a long video. A podcast, stream, webinar or YouTube video, in German or any other language.
- 2. Pick from ranked clips. Each clip comes captioned in German, framed on the speaker, with a note on why it was picked. Fix a word once and every clip updates.
- 3. Post everywhere. Schedule to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Threads and Facebook, or translate the captions for another audience.
Plans are billed by upload hours, with unlimited clips, exports and re-runs. The free plan includes 2 upload hours a month, and failed jobs refund their hours automatically.
